desktop wallpaper.

i have a special passion for finding desktop wallpapers that make me happy. design*sponge has great free ones monthly. most of them have the option to come with or with out a calendar. check them out here.

here are some of my favorites

my friend kaitlin also told me about this website with some simple designs.

hope you have a wallpaper that makes working on the computer a little more fun!

happy tuesday!

shoes and lipstick and braids

my brother is graduating in a few short weeks. it's crazy. i'm very excited to get to go out to colorado for his special weekend.

i already have the dress i am going to wear but i am in need of some shoes. i think i want red shoes but maybe i want pink or green or brown. hmm.

so since i can't sleep, i've been searching for some shoes i might like (but really i don't like them because i could never afford them, but that's what late night online shopping here is for)

i also plan to wear cute lipstick like this:

and i'm hoping to do my hair like this:

what do you think?!

(good) fern friday

{because it's good friday, of course}

happy almost easter!

the easter bunny and i go way back. at some point in my childhood i imagine i was scarred by a large bunny at a mall. i think there is a picture somewhere of me with the most terrified look on my face on a bunny's lap.
(by the way, i never made the connection between bunnies and easter? and who decided that sending an adult in a bunny costume into a mall to take pictures with kids wasn't creepy? just my thoughts.)

so from that point forward, i required that the easter bunny not enter our house. however, i am a girl who enjoys her candy and i realized the easter bunny often brought candy - so i had to come up with a new idea.

the porch.

i'm not sure how many easter mornings the pendley's spent on the porch, but i figured we better be safe than sorry by letting a big, creepy bunny into our home.

i was a very normal child.

so today it was quite appropriate when there was a package from the easter bunny (aka the pendley's) sitting on my welcome mat - not in my living room.

thank you pendley easter bunnies for easters on the porch, believing me when i told you i saw huge bunny foot prints in our backyard, and for all the easter goodies!!

before and after.

us and a fern got a makeover. i sometimes wish i was going to be a graphic designer instead of a nurse.
i just like science too much.

anyways, in light of this blog's before and after - here are some befores and afters that i have been admiring lately:

[this one is especially amazing to me because it's all white. outside. with a child. it's just asking to be a before all over again]

gosh, they're all so great. but they're all so far out of my crafting skill set.

{all of the befores and afters were found here}

earth hour.

so saturday was earth hour 2010. at 8:30 local time people were supposed to turn out their lights in order to decrease power use.

i forgot.

but our power was out for three hours on thursday so i just think we did three times the requirement. and we weren't home on saturday at 8:30. so our lights were off.

look at these really cool before and after pictures:

pups.

i'm really having puppy cravings today. and these pictures of dogs in their homes make me smile.

in other news, i made dinner tonight. ryan and i were both surprised. eek. i go through phases of not cooking. i'm really hoping those phases get shorter and further apart.
i have the best of intentions.

a few thoughts.

1. it's now blizzard-ing here.
2. i can hear snow moving on the roof.... getting nervous about it collapsing.
3. i've been thinking about what i would do if the roof collapsed.
4. i put on socks.
5. i can't focus for more than three minutes at a time.
6. we're almost out of diet coke and i'm getting nervous.
7. you would think being locked inside would result in a clean house... not here.
8. you would think being locked inside would result in really productive studying... not here.
9. i like to lay by the fire and close my eyes and pretend like i'm laying in the sun.
10. i don't think spring will ever come.
11. i think i'll be in school until july with all of these snow days.
12. i'm thinking about going to the gym.
13. i'm thinking about reasons to not go to the gym.
14. i'm thinking about my brother who runs everyday.
15. i'm thinking my brother must be sad the nuggets beat the mavericks last night.
15. i'm thinking about this cute picture of my brother:

i'm sinking!

this week kerry brought me donuts and showed me this cute video.

haha!

fern friday.

friday! yay!

this weekend is supposed to be a doozy. dc is expected to get 16-24 inches of snow.  last night the mayor said it will be the biggest storm in dc's history. yikes. people here are stressed. it hasn't started snowing yet, but schools were canceled today. the news told us to fill our bathtubs up with fresh water, just in case. we're supposed to stock up on groceries. should be interesting. ryan and i were remembering the 2006 winter storm in colorado where this amount of snow fell every weekend. we're trying not to be smug coloradoans
: )

so, clinicals started and they went ok. sometimes it's hard to feel like you're helping a patient when they feel terrible and are confused. apparently people don't like being stuck in hospitals. but, i have many more weeks ahead of me. many more patients to help and, hopefully, make their hospital stay a little more bearable.

in other random news, dc's national zoo had to say goodbye to a cutie pie yesterday. people were heartbroken.

tai shan the panda had to go to china. he was born in dc, but was apparently on loan from a china panda commune. there was an article in the newspaper about tai shan's trainer. she has been with him since his birth. she's taking him to china. she is very sad and i cried reading about it. i've never even seen this panda. i'm obviously very emotionally stable. anyways, there was a big going away party for the little guy.

well, i'm off to the grocery store to stock up. if i don't blog for a while, there's a possibility we ran out of bathtub water.

oh punxsutawney phil.

(image via here)

bad news. punxsutawney phil saw his shadow. or so they say... who determines whether or not phil saw his shadow? also, i had no idea how creepy looking punxsutawney was.

6 more weeks of winter. it's appropriate since it's supposed to snow here today.

here's some pictures to remind us that spring has to come eventually.

2010...

how do YOU say it?

i've been told by some that the proper way to pronounce 2010 is "twenty-ten". i did a significant amount of research (browsing the first page of results on google) and i could not find any sort of verification.

 (image via weheartit)

even npr wasn't sure.

one thing is sure: i don't like saying twenty-ten.

i know, i know, the 20th century was normally said as nineteen-whatever. but i think i will say two-thousand-ten. two-thousand-eleven. two-thousand-twelve... and so on for the rest of my life. i think it will make me a little bit classier. or crazy.
