thanksgiving.

our little family had a great thanksgiving. being away from home on holidays is hard, but we're enjoying this unique time in our lives where it's just the two of us (plus ellie, of course). having a few days off of work and school were so good for my soul and allowed us a chance to refresh after a few crazy weeks.

on thanksgiving eve, we took ellie to see the monuments at night. i think the world war two memorial is best at night with its lit up fountain.

on thanksgiving morning, we watched the macy's day parade and made homemade donuts.

then, we spent the rest of the day making our own little "deconstructed" thanksgiving. we bought some different parts of turkey and made them with all of the traditional sides in our tiny, little kitchen. it was a really fun and special day that was filled with good conversations.

(see our christmas tree?! ha!)

we had a great time, but we are so excited to be with all the people we love most for christmas. only a few more weeks!

i am loved.

last week was pretty rough. i had a few tests to get through and a fairly full schedule. however, on wednesday i got hit with a migraine. then the car battery died. both of those things happened 30 minutes before i had a meeting to be at. i think i called ryan 28 times while he was at work. he helped me relax and told me everything was going to be ok. a man in a parking lot helped me restart the battery. he pretty much told me the only reason he was doing it was because he felt bad for me. and he probably thought i was crazy. i was crying, holding my head and walking aimlessly around a parking lot. i went to the meeting but the migraine did not go away. i left the meeting early, went home, and mostly slept until saturday. maybe i had some sort of bug or maybe i was just really tired.

either way, i am so grateful for ryan. he answered my calls. he was worried about me. he took care of everything. he made me grilled cheese and tomato soup when i finally felt like eating. he took care of ellie. he did the dishes. he let me rest. he loved me. and for that i am so grateful. he is a good man.

fern friday.

happy friday!

i'm sitting here cuddling with my cute, little, jealous puppy. she HATES our laptops because they take over her area on our laps. she has really wiggled her way into getting whatever she wants...

i'm back to the reality of school and plan on doing homework for the rest of the evening. ryan's working all weekend long so i am headed to an amusement park with the nursing girls tomorrow. i'm so grateful for a husband who works so hard and who is so good at what he does.

i hope you have an amazing last weekend of august! fall is just around the corner!

internet: on.

hello! i've missed this little blog so much during our internet hiatus. i'm hoping to be regularly posting for a while. moving can really take it out of you, but i think we're recovered : )

a few weeks ago ryan took me to an incredible restaurant in eastern market. acqua al 2 started with a restaurant in italy and now is located in san diego and dc.

the. food. was. amazing.

my mouth is still watering just thinking about our meal. ryan has learned that feeding me good food evokes a joy in me that is unmatched by most anything else.

ryan had the steak sampler which included a balsamic vinegar glazed steak, a rosemary and garlic steak, and a blueberry glazed steak. all three were melt-in-your-mouth glorious. we are still talking about those steaks.

i enjoyed a delicious, spicy, wonderful pasta dish. the pasta was so good and so fresh and wonderful.

we ended with my favorite, tiramisu. i didn't get a picture because my arms couldn't reach around my full stomach.

i love eastern market.
i love eating.
i love italian.
i love birthdays.
i love ryan.

it was a perfect way to celebrate my birthday because i love so many things the night involved. thank you ry.

valentines.

this was our first valentines. we had been dating like two weeks. valentines is kind of an awkward day when you haven't been dating very long. and then we ended up matching. which was cute, but kind of added to the awkwardness.

this was our first married valentines. we have been married eight months. it wasn't awkward at all. it was fun and filled with flowers, burgers, pizza, cupcakes, and basketball.  and we didn't match. it was the best.

fern friday.

fern friday!!
what a weird week it was. i had a week off of school. ryan stayed home a couple of days. there's 4 feet of snow on the ground. the nuggets lost. it was just weird. but... the weekend is here!

it's valentine's weekend! i generally think valentine's is kind of cheesy and weird, but it is the most "pink" holiday and usually involves candy, so i don't dislike it altogether. like, this picture is too cute and pretty:

(image via here)

for our first married valentine's, ryan and i are going to a new burger place, eating cupcakes and watching the nba all-star game. i couldn't be more excited.

hope you have a happy, pretty valentine's weekend!

study study.

this is my very own cozy nook. i'm trying to force myself to sit here and study today. the sitting here part is easy. the studying part is not.
ryan's working from home today. and he has a longer attention span than i do. so i'm really trying to not drive him crazy (hence i'm sitting in my nook). when i do feel the need to talk to him, it usually goes something like this:

kelsie: (singing a song)
-pause-
kelsie: ryan,
ryan: yes?
kelsie: do you think i could be on american idol?
ryan: yes, you could BE on american idol.
kelsie: thanks babe.
kelsie: (later thinking he probably meant on the first episode. where people think they're good. and they're really bad. but those are the best episodes anyways)

fern friday.

friday came fast. that's always good.

i just spent the past two hours at the virginia dmv. we now have virginia license plates and i have a virginia driver's license. i feel like all things colorado were just ripped from me. yuck. people now will expect me to know where i am going and can't just look at my car and sigh, "she's just from colorado".

ryan's refusing to let go. he still has his colorado driver's license... we also have this above our washer and dryer:

don't judge too much... it can be hidden behind these doors:

so i'd say we're still connected to our colorado roots.

i hope you have a fun, warm, happy weekend!

newspaper.

(photo from here)

ryan made my day today and got us a subscription to the washington post. now we have full access to coupons, dogs for sale, new apartments, crossword puzzles and... news! i'm feeling a bit more grown up as i picture us reading the day's top headlines while drinking our coffee before we head off to work and school... i'll let you know if and when that happens.
